Besides being one of the most talented young guys we have in the industry today, Lyta also happens to be one of the luckiest.
It’s true. The “Time” singer got signed to Olamide‘s YBNL imprint in 2018 and quickly became one of the most promising artists in the country. He even got a Next Rated nod that year.
Unfortunately, the deal with YBNL didn’t really work out. Olamide had other projects he was working on (obviously), and he sidetracked Project Lyta. He left YBNL.
But his story didn’t end there. Not long after, he was able to move on and do stuff on his own. In 2019, Davido linked up with him and graced him with the hit “Monalisa.” Davido even paid for the video!
He kept moving on. And in 2020, Naira Marley signed him to his Marlian Records outfit. That instantly boosted his profile and he seemed to be doing okay. Well, I guess he still is. Last year he had such mild hits as “Hold Me Down” and “Everybody.”
This year, he’s continued his run with “Are You Sure,” a song that featured Zinoleesky and Naira Marley. The song is all right and the reception has not been bad either.
It is still a popular opinion that with a little more seriousness with the music, and some consistency, an EP or album or something, Lyta could still do some wonders in the industry.
“High Vibration” ft. Naira Marley
His new single, though, gives me mixed feelings. On the one hand, I don’t think what he needs right now is an amapiano song with Naira Marley that might not get anywhere.
On the other hand, if he’s working towards something, an EP maybe, “High Vibration” seems like the right kind of song you’d wet the ground with.
The track, which is a mellow amapiano-influenced afro jam, is some kind of ghetto gospel stuff, the kind of stuff Lyta is actually very good with. It’s got some hopeful vibe, and hopefully, it can turn up some dance floors, owing to its irresistible amapiano vibe.
“High Vibration” isn’t exactly all that and I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t become a hit or anything. It’s just another Lyta song. It doesn’t slow down his momentum. I don’t think it boosts it either. It’s just there. Plus, Naira Marley couldn’t have saved the jam even if he wanted to.
Rating: 5/10
