Is Don Jazzy’s New Boy, Magixx, The New Reekado Banks?

As far as talent goes in the music industry, Don Jazzy is a very talented scout.

Of course, in the past couple of years, the boss has been silent on that front. He’s been promoting people, trying new stuff, but not like before. He must have done one or two on guys like Rema, Ruger, and Crayon, who are just affiliated to his label through his kins.

He finally decided to get back in the game, earlier this year, with Ayra Starr, a new girl he’s groomed to take on one of the biggest markets in the mainstream right now. She killed it, no doubt. But that wouldn’t be enough for Mavin 3.0, I don’t think. Don Jazzy wasn’t gonna stop anywhere.

This new boy, Magixx, his latest addition to the Mavin Records family is his best shot at getting his label’s cred back up there and do something iconic. Question now is, is the boy good enough?

We don’t know a lot about Magixx. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t matter where he’s from or who he was before Don Jazzy. You see, time and time again Jazzy has shown that he respects hustlers who are working and getting themselves out there as independent artists.

But mostly, he doesn’t sign those kind of guys. He likes to catch his own guys, young and fresh. He then grooms them, maybe into whatever he likes or whatever they like, it does not matter. Point is, before Mavin, pretty nobody that mattered knew our boy Magixx.

Since the release of his self-titled EP, there’s not been a lot of noise about this one. So far, it has not been like Ayra Starr’s introduction that was kind of buzzy.

The 5-track introductory EP in question strikes me as a body of work that could use a little more work if you ask me. I don’t quite get the angle they’re tryna work on the boy, at this point. I mean, I guess it makes sense that the boy is different from Rema as possible, right?

Okay, so Jazzy got him a talker here. A lyricist. He’s got words. Even when he’s trying to turn up a party, like on “Pati,” he’s still getting a lot of words in. His most impressive song, “Love Don’t Cost A Dime” is a laid-back afro-fusion track with some top-notch lyricism.

His voice ain’t bad. But it ain’t all that either. So what’s the catch? I don’t know. The way I see it, guy’s got a mature vibe, kinda like what Reekado Banks had while he was coming up at Mavins.

So what do you think?

Will Magixx Be A Good Replacement For Reekado Banks?
