NL Review!! DaBaby’s “Showing Off Her Body” With Davido — Sure Hit Or Just Trash?

Davido is one of those artists that’s always busy.

Even when he’s taking time off, he’s still working. Making moves, collaborating, making things happen. That’s the kind of guy OBO is and has been for many years.

That’s why although he hasn’t had a project since 2020’s “A Better Time,” he’s still one of the top boys in the industry today alongside prolific artists like Kizz Daniel and Burna Boy. Project or no project, Davido is always working.

He’s been on quite enough hits in the past year and it’s only right that he starts making his own moves. So, he came back this year with a new single (“Stand Strong”) and the promise of another album.

With the album in the works, you’d think that Davido will take a rest from collabos, but not really. Davido is still out here doing stuff with everyone from Skiibii to CKay and now DaBaby.

The DaBaby single, called “Showing Off Her Body” is the latest song Davido appears on to hit us this year. Quite the collabo because Dababy is legit one of America’s hottest rap artists in the past two years.

Before the release of the song, Baby even came to Nigeria where he made the music video with Davido. With all that hype, at that point, it was up to the song to either be a hit or not.

Thing is, that was a week ago. “Showing Off Her Body” has been out for a week now and if there’s any noise to be made about this one, this is the time. If it ain’t already a bop by now, it’s probably never gonna be.

To be honest, “Showing Off Her Body” doesn’t even deserve to be a hit. Let’s forget the fact that DaBaby is a foreign act and Davido is a top boy in the industry. Let’s forget all of that and just think about the song.

The track has an afro beat, not unlike the kind Davido has been using for a while. The kind of instrumental artists like WizKid will eat raw, but DaBaby just couldn’t do anything with it. His chorus is simply whack and I must say it’s quite weird that Davido doesn’t take the hook of a song.

Davido’s verse wasn’t bad, but the song was already trash before it came on. Imagine doing a good verse on a song with a whack chorus from a rapper who thinks he could be Drake. Yeah, it’s useless.

A waste of instrumental, a waste of collaboration. It certainly could’ve been much better than this, honestly. “Showing Off Her Body” is a disgrace to Afrobeats international collaboration. No wonder it tanked.
