DO YOU AGREE? Boarding School Should Be Abolish In Nigeria (See Why)

Warning: Strong graphics content and images ahead.

Strange things are happening in Nigerian boarding school nowadays. In fact, I don’t even see any reason why my children should attend a boarding school.

What Is Boarding School?

A boarding school is an institution where children live within the premises while being given formal instruction. The word “boarding” is used in the sense of “room and board”, i.e. lodging and meals.

Boarding school have existed for many centuries, and now extend across many countries, their function and ethos varies greatly.

Importance Of Boarding School

Students learn how to balance a lot of activities while in boarding school. The purpose of boarding school is to develop the total child. Children living away from home learn the basics of time management and how to balance their involvement in tasks.

Why Boarding School Should Be Abolish In Nigeria?

Just like NYSC, boarding schools have outlived its importance in Nigeria and should be put an end for good.

On December 20, in a video that went viral on social media, Deborah Okezie, the mother of an 11-year-old JSS1 student of Deeper Life High School, Uyo, Don Davis, narrated how her son was allegedly starved, sexually molested and assaulted in the boarding school.

In the video, Deborah can be found questioning her son who, although seemed very frightened, said that he was being starved and beaten by one “Mr. Akpan” while he was in school. He was also allegedly molested and assaulted by some senior students of the school. “They will remove his boxer and push their legs and hands into his anus.

What was Deeper Life Church response? They denied it and even tried to shut the victim up.

And now, another disheartening reports had emerged..a 12-year-old student of Dowen College in Lagos, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr was bullied and beaten by fellow students.

The supposed injuries from the beating led to his death, according to a Twitter user who claimed to be the boy’s cousin.

What was the School response? In a statement on Wednesday, the school denied all allegations stating that Oromoni was neither bullied nor beaten but only complained of hip pain after playing football.

Contrary to the school’s statement, the victim’s cousin rolled out photos and video evidence, which corroborated the fact that the child was bullied and beaten; an action that led to his death.

They beat him up to the point of death, forced acid into his throat, because he refuses to join secret cult, according to reports.

So you can agree with me that boarding schools have outlived its importance in Nigeria and should be put an end for good.
