A king without a “Staff Of Office“, is that one a king?

It is no longer news that Oba Of Lagos, HRM, Rilwan Akinolu lost his “Opa Ase“, “Staff Of Office” to hoodlums who invaded his palace some days ago.

Oba Akinolu‘s palace was actually part of the site of destruction hoodlums who were looting in the name of #EndSARS protest targeted.

A video of the hoodlums taking away the staff of office with real sense of fulfillment emerged online and it is confirmed that Oba Of Lagos no longer has a “Staff Of Office”.

What Does It Mean For The King To Lose His Staff Of Office?

The “Opa Ase” in literally means, “Staff Of Authority“. Without it, the king has no authority over anything in the kingdom.

In Yoruba Land, a king without a “Staff Of Office” can be likened to a toothless bull dog.

The funny thing is, he can only be addressed as King when he has the Staff Of Authority, without it, his title is Mr or maybe Chief if he has money.

Without the Staff Of Office, things will not go well in the Palace as well as in the town at large.

In fact, some elders said if it was the olden days before politics eat deep into traditional practice, the King will be dethroned in 7days.

What The Royal Family Are Doing To Get The Staff Of Office Back

The State Governor imposed curfew in the state as a result of looting and other violence going on.

To a large extent, things are going back to normal and the Oba Of Lagos needs to do something to get his Staff Of Authority back.

What the Royal Family has done so far is to release series of sacred threat of what will happen if the guys with the Staff don’t return it.

Just recently, a video of the King’s native doctors laying heavy curses on anyone with the staff of office emerged online.

The question is, does it mean, if the person that is in possession of the “Staff Of Office” see the video, he will be scared and return it back?

I really don’t know if the royal family are actually doing the right thing to get the “Staff Of Office” back.
