While 2017 was one extraordinary year when many went solo and rather depended on their own creativity to craft out a hit.
In 2018, we witnessed a reverse trend when industry powerhouses co-joined forces to draft out hit songs.
Here is Naijaloaded’s 2018 10 Best Music Collaborations;
1. Wizkid Ft. Ceeza Milli x Terri x Spotless – Soco
For the first 6 months of 2018, Wizkid realized the mistake he made in 2017 when there was dearth of local content he gave to his Nigerian audience.
For once, we got tired of the Caribbean vibes and wanted something relatable. Then Soco came.
A collaborative project between Wizkid and his Starboy affiliates, everyone showed their creativity on this song especially Terri whose verse was quite exceptional.
2. Kizz Daniel x Davido – One Ticket
While For You with Wizkid didn’t grow to the hit song he expected it to be, One Ticket continued that trend of love themed songs we had this year.
Fake Love, Assurance and Amaka had showed that example and Kizz Daniel wasn’t going to dull on that trend, he hired up Davido who for sure is a hit maker and together, they created a fiery song to close out the year.
3. 2Baba Ft. Peruzzi – Amaka
Amaka was one of those songs that broke the dominance Soco had for the first five months.
The synergy 2Baba and Peruzzi exemplified on this song is quite extraordinary and credit has to go to SperoachBeatz for creating a beat Peruzzi, a newbie and 2baba a legend could vibe to.
4. Wizkid x Duncan Mighty – Fake Love
While it’s a known fact Wizkid was one of the best artistes of 2018, he also did a very big thing in 2018, resurrecting the career of Duncan Mighty with Fake Love.
While it’s controversial, you can’t deny the quality and tenacity these two talented pop singers brought on this song.
5. DJ Enimoney x Slimcase x Reminisce x Tiwa Savage – Diet
It was surprising DJ Enimoney could bring in a diverse bunch of talents on one song but while Diet got condemned by many for its controversial lyrics, the more it got condemned, the more it got popular.
With fiery rapper Reminisce combined with the soothing voice of Tiwa Savage and the smokey lyrics by Slimcase, it was one of those bangers we enjoyed early on in 2018.
6. Mayorkun x Davido – Bobo
Mayorkun had always been known for his ability to craft out hit songs in the two years he has been in the industry.
In 2018, his first song was Bobo after killing 2017 with Che Che and Mama, Bobo with the DMW boss came in at the right time to solidify the fact that he’s a hit maker like his boss as well.
7. Chinko Ekun x Lil Kesh x Zlatan Ibile – Able God
Chinko Ekun had always been in the industry. He had spent two years under Olamide but all the time he was at YBNL, there was no major hit song from him, and even while he left, luck was not beaming on him.
However, when you have an hardcore rapper like Chinko Ekun teaming up with Lil Kesh and rave of the moment, Zlatan Ibile, apart from the street music material, there’s always this kind of volcanic eruption that happens when two or more of these guys connect.
It happened on Jogor and Able God wasn’t going to be an exception.
8. DMW – Mind
DMW gave us several songs in 2018 but the major hit that got us listening was Mind.
This song introduced Peruzzi and on a Fresh Vdm record, one of the best beat merchants we have right now, the DMW boys alongside their boss gave us a record we just had to vibe to at the beginning of the year.
9. Tiwa Savage x Duncan Mighty – Lova Lova
Ma Lo with Wizkid was a hit and when Tiwa Savage called up Duncan Mighty for a hit, we were quite skeptical it would satisfy that expectation.
Everyone was calling up Duncan Mighty for a hit but songs Duncan Mighty had with the likes of DJ Exclusive, Lil Kesh and Ceeza Milli failed to grow into a hit but when you have Tiwa Savage and Duncan Mighty on a Spellz beat, it was certain it would do the needful when we heard it.
10. Olamide x Wizkid – Kana
Anytime Wizkid and Olamide vibe together on a project, it’s always one that has a longer shelf life, one we always want to happen and one that stays long on a DJ’s rotation.
And Kana wasn’t an exception. Produced by Mutay, Kana brought in a vibe other producers would later recreate in their songs.
