“Why There Are Few Female Standup Comedians in Nigeria” – Warri Pikin Reveals

Nigerian comedian Warri Pikin has shared her thoughts on why there are few successful female comedians in Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, she explained that despite her success, she still faces considerable downgrading.

Warri Pikin added that women in the comedy industry have to work twice as hard to achieve recognition.

She said:-

“There are not many women that are doing standup comedy right now. I can actually count them. When I did my show in Abuja last year, I was like “no female comedian?” So I did a post on my page and said, “if you know any female comedian wey good, tag am” and I was shocked. I saw a lot of people tagged and I reached out to them via their DMs. It was only a few of them that had videos of themselves doing standup here and there. I had conversations with them and they will tell you, it’s a male dominated industry. It is hard.

For woman to dey male dominated industry, you need to work twice as hard before they go come talk say na because you fine na why you funny. So I started having conversations with them, talking to them. It’s not easy for this male dominated industry, but you need to know the craft, and you need to be very strategic. I feel like for more female comedians to fill up the space, we need more encouragement.

I remember when I won standup comedian of the year, no be small curse them curse me for comment section, and if other female comedians see those comments, they will go back to their shell. There are a lot of very funny female comedians but there are a lot of factors.

First, you’re a woman. For you to be woman for this part of the world, the world don give you 1-0. And then the society, and then there’s how people see women.

Even till now, I still get it, as big as I am. You just need to ojiri as a woman. When you don understand the dynamics around the industry, you need to chop ojiri tell yourself all die na die. I must do it regardless.“

PROTEST: No Reasonable Nigerian Would Go Out To Damage Gov’t Property – Femi Falana

Renowned senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana has reacted to the comment from Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, stressing that no reasonable Nigerian would go out to protest and damage the government’s property.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Falana said that they have freedom to exercise their right as a citizen and praises the IGP for acknowledging this.

He underlined that the Police Establishments Act requires the police to protect protesters and give them proper protection.

Falana, declined to comment on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s statement as he highlight the IGP’s self-assured and responsible handling of the scheduled planned protest.

In his words:

“I’m going to react to the second statement of the Inspector General of Police only. I’m not going to join issues with Mr. Nyesom Wike for personal reasons.”

The IG has spoken very maturely, and according to him, it’s the constitutional right of Nigerians to protest, and nobody can take that away from us, but the IG has said it must not snowball into violence.”

“This is where duty has been placed on the police under the Police Establishments Act to find where protesters would like to go and ensure that adequate security is provided.”

“I’m also sure no reasonable Nigerian would go out to protest with a view of damaging government property.”

“I Didn’t Make Any Profit From Mike Ejeagha’s ‘Gwo Gwo Ngwo’ Song” – Brain Jotter Clarifies

Popular Nigerian skit maker Chukwuebuka Amuzie, known as Brain Jotter, has responded to accusations of exploiting veteran singer Mike Ejeagha by using his 1983 hit “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo” for content creation.

These allegations arose after Brain Jotter initiated a dance challenge featuring Ejeagha’s song, which has brought joy to many.

It is worth noting that the song by the 93-year-old folk legend is over four decades old.

However, its recent use by Brain Jotter has captivated social media platforms, raising concerns regarding the distribution of revenue and copyright issues.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Brain Jotter clarified that he is not reaping any financial benefits from the viral phenomenon.

He said:-

“For those who think we ripped him off or we’re making money from this whole thing, I understand your concerns, and they are very valid. I appreciate the fact that you want him to get value for his hard work, which is very valid, and I want you to understand that you are doing something good.”

Sharing a video of his visit to the music legend, Brain Jotter explained, saying, “At the end of the day, no dime was made from this song by me, nothing like that.”

He further explained the mechanics of content monetisation on various platforms.

Brain Jotter added:-

“All those music where I did put out there – Instagram, Facebook, YouTube – everything, the whole revenue is going to Mike Ejeagha’s record label, his production company.

“You cannot even monetise another person’s song because these platforms have copyright violation tools. If I post that video on YouTube, YouTube strikes it for copyright and they give the revenue to the actual owner, which is Mike Ejeagha.

“If you post it on Facebook, Facebook will tell you outright that this song does not belong to you; it belongs to this person. They take the revenue and give it to the actual owner.

“The song increased its streams on streaming platforms massively, and there’s no way I can put the song on streaming platforms. So everything, all revenues, are going straight to Mike Ejeagha.”

Speaking about his gift of two million nairas to Ejeagha, Brain Jotter said:-

“The two million I gave him was from my pocket. My hard-earned money is just for humanity and not for profit. This whole thing is not for profit.”

He further expressed gratitude for the joy the challenge has brought.

“We got the reward, which is the joy in his heart now. The joy in his heart now is my profit,” he said.

Daniel Regha Defends Hilda Baci Against Allegations of Ties to Godswill Akpabio

Media personality Daniel Regha has taken a stand with Hilda Baci amid unfounded claims that the chef is one of Godswill Akpabio’s side chics.

Controversial blogger Gistlover sparked a buzz by releasing names of ladies alleged to be Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s side chics. Despite the lack of solid evidence, some of these ladies have publicly debunked the allegations.

In a recent post, Daniel Regha specifically defended Hilda Baci, criticizing those who jumped to conclusions without verifying the legitimacy of the report.

The famous critic pointed out that the same people who are now criticizing her were the ones who celebrated her after her Guinness World Record attempt.

In his words:-

“Hilda Baci allegedly dating Akpabio hasn’t been confirmed yet, but y’all have already made a big deal out of it; Believing with no single proof like a picture, video, or leaked audio conversation to back up the allegations.

This is coming from people who were quick to celebrate her after the GWR attempt. Where’s the sense in that?”

FAKE STORY! Bollywood Actress Dakore Denies Ever Meeting Senate President Godswill Akpabio

Famous Nigerian actress Dakore Egbuson-Akande has denied a report that she had an affair with the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio.

A viral report on Sunday named Dakore among other female celebrities that are allegedly Akpabio’s ‘side chicks.’

In a post on her official Instagram page on Monday, the actress denied the allegations, stating that she had never met Akpabio before.

“I saw text messages and calls this morning, alerting me to a very wicked lie from the pit of hell. I must say that I’m very disappointed, shocked and appalled. And I want to categorically state that I have never ever met the Senate president in my life.

“I have not had any cause to be in the same room with him, not to talk of being his side chick. I’m happily married with two beautiful children. So for a jobless, wicked blogger to decide to put my name amongst women who have been with this man is totally wicked and unfounded.

“It is a lie and I am ready for any legal action because, at this point, you have messed with the wrong person. I keep to myself, mind my business, I drink water and I do my work. So for someone to want to tarnish my hard-earned name and image for some clicks, no way.

“I’m not going to accept it or going to be quiet about it. I want to put it out there. Anyone who can provide video or audio evidence that I have been with this man, I would give you N5 million right now,” she wrote.

Casino Partnerships: When Entertainment and Gambling Collide

Online gambling by itself is pretty fun, but when you combine it with popular media like movies and music, then you’ve got something truly amazing on your hands.

In this article, we’ll take a look at how online casinos have given pop culture a second life and redefined our favorite pieces of entertainment. We’ll also take a look at what benefits and challenges come with such interesting casino partnerships.

Iconic Soundtracks

While a lot of games have catchy tunes, some of them go the extra mile and implement truly iconic soundtracks from the music scene. This is most evident in slot games that are dedicated to certain bands. You can hear all of their greatest hits while you spin, adding more thrill and creating a unique atmosphere.

There are even slots that let you choose which of the band’s most popular songs you’re hearing in the background. All you have to do is go to the settings and pick from the playlist.

Popular Themes

Casino games have given a second life to many themes that were popular in Hollywood movies and retro video games. For example, you can relive the iconic Space Invaders game through Space Invaders Roulette. There are also countless slots that pay homage to the biggest Hollywood hits of all time. Rambo and The Godfather are just two examples.

We can’t forget about TV and Game show renditions, as they have a unique vibe about them that you wouldn’t think was possible to recreate. Monopoly live games, Rick and Morty, and Narcos slots are the first that come to mind.

Storytelling

From countless movies and TV shows, it’s obvious that people love telling and listening to stories. It’s no wonder, then, that you can find storytelling elements in many casino games today.

In fact, the most popular ones have iconic characters that inspired whole franchises. Take Rich Wilde for example, as this man has been around the slot world and taken you on the adventure with him.

Most fans know his story and it keeps them endlessly entertained and invested in the gameplay!

The Benefits of Entertainment and Gambling Colliding

Now that we can see how entertainment and gambling collide, we have to wonder what the benefits of such partnerships are.

Game Diversification

An online casino that has a wide variety of games has less trouble attracting new and retaining old players. Regular game themes often aren’t enough for a wide and active audience, so it’s no wonder casinos turn to ideas and stories that they know everyone loves.

Aside from including such games in their portfolio, casinos can also enhance players’ experiences by implementing interactive live streams and virtual experiences. The live casino section is perfect for this, as it naturally bridges the gap between the entertainment and gambling industry.

Raising Brand Awareness

Casinos that offer these types of games and services have a unique opportunity to work with other famous brands from the entertainment industry. These collaborations can bring in more traffic and also create a buzz around the casino’s name.

It’s hard to get ahead of the competition in such a competitive market, so raising brand awareness through such partnerships is a great move.

Innovative Marketing Strategies

Another way that casinos can leverage themed games and other entertainment industry elements is by implementing creative marketing strategies. For example, if a game they want to add is based on an up-and-coming movie, the casino can get celebrity endorsements and have exclusive content releases.

And if we’re talking about games that pay homage to older movies and shows, casinos can host ‘Retro Nights’ or offer special promotions just for these titles. It’s an excellent way to get people talking, as not many online casinos do these types of things today.

The Challenges

Of course, these two industries collaborating can pose some unique challenges:

  • Regulatory compliance: Online casinos have to make sure that the new content they want to add to their portfolio complies with the laws and regulations of the country where they provide their services.
  • Intellectual property issues: This is an important issue for new and old games alike. When working with content from the entertainment industry, casinos have to make sure to respect all of their intellectual property rights. As well as that, royalty agreements should be standard practice.
  • Financial challenges: Developing and maintaining partnerships with the entertainment industry often requires significant financial investments, including licensing fees, production costs, and marketing expenses, which may strain the online casino’s budget.

Conclusion

In summary, the partnership between online casinos and the entertainment industry presents both opportunities and challenges.

While it allows online casinos to reach new audiences and improve their brand image through creative collaborations, navigating regulations and making significant investments are crucial considerations.

Despite these hurdles, these partnerships have definitely been successful in the past, as they have brought us many casino games and entertainment elements we absolutely love!
