Who Is The Most Streamed Afrobeats Artist In The US In 2023?

A recent report was published, revealing the most streamed Afrobeats artist in the US during the first half of 2023, one of the music industry’s largest markets.

The report, compiled by Luminate, a US market monitor, and published by Music Business Worldwide, unveiled data on the most streamed Afrobeats artist both in the US and worldwide for the first half of 2023.

According to Luminate’s findings, Afrobeats music generated an impressive 2.5 billion on-demand audio streams in the US, representing a significant 34% increase compared to the same period in 2022. The report highlighted Burna Boy as the most streamed Afrobeats artist during the first half of 2023, with singers Tems and Wizkid following closely behind.

Music Business Worldwide revealed, “Burna Boy, one of the world’s leading Afrobeats stars, amassed 1.1 billion on-demand audio streams globally in the first half of the year, with 255.8 million of those streams coming from the US.”

Tems secured over 184 million streams in the US, while Wizkid maintained the third position in the rankings with over 181 million on-demand streams.

The report also confirmed a global increase in music consumption during 2023, as noted by Music Business Worldwide.

“Globally, according to Luminate, total on-demand song streams (Audio + Video) grew 30.8% in H1 2023 to reach 3.3 trillion in total, compared to 2.5 trillion on-demand song streams in H1 2022.

Total on-demand audio song streams globally rose 22.9% YoY to 2 trillion. In the world’s largest recorded music market, the United States, on-demand audio streams grew 13.5% to reach 616.5 billion. On-demand song streams, meanwhile (including audio and video) grew 15% YoY to 713.5 billion streams.

Total Album Consumption (TAC) of all music in the United States in H1 rose 13.4% to 538.9 million album-sale-equivalent units in H1 2023. Luminate’s ‘Total Album Consumption’ (TAC) metric combines all on-demand track streams, plus all track downloads, plus all album sales on digital and physical formats.”
