After an unprecedented whirlwind trend on TikTok, 2Weird’s “Okalumu Mma”, released in April 2021, has just made a remarkable comeback on social media, with the internet going wild over the feel-good number.
Popular skit-maker, Sabinus jumped on the sound on Instagram to make one of his most hilarious skits yet–a mute video without dialogue, yet generating thousands of hilarious comments, as the song itself said all there was to say. Jumping on the trend, other entertainers NastyBlaq, Pankeeroy, Don Jazzy, and Jazzy Burger, among others, have also made videos using the contagious sound.
The somber yet comic song invokes a relatable emotion in everyone who hears it.
The song, with its title translated, “It Is Better for Me”, touches on the subject of self-preservation while leaving the listener with a feeling of humor, as the chorus of the song, loosely translated, boldly proclaims, “It is better for me to be by myself rather than have a friend/boyfriend/girlfriend who stresses me”.
“Okalumu Mma” resurged late last year in October on TikTok with the “Why are you single challenge?” that shot the song to the top trends on the platform and Instagram, gaining over two million aggregated streams across streaming channels so far in April 2023.
