With the double diamond certification of his hit song “Calm Down,” talented Nigerian superstar Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, has reached yet another important milestone in France.
Afrobeats songs are receiving more international certifications as more fans are embracing Nigerian music. Rema‘s “Calm Down” is the top song in France while the global smash enters the double diamond stage.
Released in February 2022 as the first single off his debut album of the same name. The remix, which features American pop singer Selena Gomez, is one of Afrobeats’ most well-known international exports.
SNEP, France’s national music certification organization, has already awarded the album a diamond certification. The song is now certified as a double diamond with sales of more than 500,000.
‘Calm Down‘ is also certified in Switzerland, Italy, and the United Kingdom. It has also acquired an RIAA platinum plaque, making it one of the best-selling Afrobeats tracks in the United States.
At a peak position of No. 8, “Calm Down” presently holds the record for the highest-charting African song on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing Wizkid’s “Essence” remix featuring Tems & Justin Bieber, which reached No. 9.
With over 427 million views, the music video is the most-watched Afrobeats music video on YouTube. Both the remix and the original have received over 2 billion streams across all platforms.
