NL Review!! Lil Kesh’s “Vanilla Bottega” With Joeboy, A Hit Or Miss?

Lil Kesh seems to be hell-bent on giving us back-to-back hits.

This time, he called on Joeboy for assistance on his afro bop, “Vanilla Bottega.” With this, the ex-YBNL star will be trying to create a follow-up hit to his last hit with Zinoleesky, “Don’t Call Me,” which has so far been commercially and critically successful.

Lil Kesh is not new to making hits. The same guy Olamide did the “every single was a hit” rant for at the 2015 Headies, Kesh has been doing it for quite some time now. He released his debut album in 2016 and exited YBNL to be on his own.

Since then, he has had on and off phases and he has only managed a few hits, with some of them being years apart even. But lately, he seems to be back on his feet. With his return to action in 2020 with the EP, “Ecstacy,” it looks like Lil Kesh might be ready to do the work to get back on top after all.

His past hits have been collaborations with superstars (“Love Like This” ft. Fireboy DML, “Don’t Call Me” ft. Zinoleesky) and they’ve been smashing instant hits. The collaboration seems to be his formula for making hits now. Now, he’ll be looking to recreate that magic on this new one.

There’s not much to be said about the new single, “Vanilla Bottega” which features one of the most talented youngsters out there, Joeboy. Because, in many ways, it’s like “Don’t Call Me.” For one, Lil Kesh didn’t relegate himself to rapping like many other rappers would do should they be on the same song with singers.

Also, Lil Kesh took the major part and just gave Joeboy a verse. If you think about it, the song would have worked without Joeboy. Alternatively, any other artist could’ve done what Joeboy did there.

In other words, what Lil Kesh is trying to do is probably use Joeboy‘s name to get attention. That’s sure to work because Joeboy happens to be one of the frequent hitmakers in the industry.

Overall, the song doesn’t have a new vibe that would impress anyone that listens to it. It’s just the same old Lil Kesh. But some might appreciate the consistency in his sound because that’s something we’ve not had in years of listening to Lil Kesh. Maybe he’s finally up to something and perhaps an album isn’t far off.
