Did Omah Lay Really Copy Wizkid’s Style On “Woman”?

In a month’s time, we’ll be vibing to Omah Lay’s debut album, “Boy Alone.”

That’s not by any means his first offering, though, since he’s given us two solid EP’s within a period of two years. As far as proving goes, I’d say Omah Lay has proven himself.

Now whether this album exceeds expectations or disappoints won’t matter anymore, since all he just has to do is go in the booth and make another one. Nobody’s cancelling Omah Lay because of a bad album, never. That’s that.

But so close to his album release, the conversation about him that’s trending is about how his likeness to Wizkid. This is not the first time he’s been compared with the “Essence” singer. This time, though, the conversations have been revived because of his new single, “Woman.”

The story is that, on “Woman,” Omah Lay channeled his inner Wizkid as the lyrics distinctly sound like what Wizkid would do. The song starts with a “she tell me this, she tell me that” line that has been likened to Wizkid’s catchphrase “she tell me say.”

So does this mean Omah Lay copied Wizkid on “Woman”? Not necessarily. The thing is, it is not news that Wizkid is the biggest inspiration for most of these young kids and that no matter how they try, they’ll still always sound like him.

Woman,” though, is not even the most Wizkid song in Omah Lay’s discography. His previous single, “Free My Mind” even sounds like WizKid more than this. This one is just Omah Lay doing Omah Lay things and I think people are just exaggerating things. After all, it’s not like WizKid was known for “she tell me say” until recently.

Well, why don’t you just check out the song for yourself and be the judge of that?
