Where is TROD?
The first time I heard the name Trod was in 2017.
The streets were buzzing, Olamide was on his A-game at the time, Oladips was in his prime, Small Doctor had just secured a crossover hit in “Penalty” and it was the height of the Wizkid and Davido wars.
Point is, the music industry was booming. And conversations about who’s next, or who’s doing this and who’s doing that, were everywhere.
Then, out of nowhere, came this young boy who wanted to follow in Dagrin‘s footsteps and make a name for himself by doing indigenous rap at its best and purest form. His name: TROD.
It didn’t take long before everyone started checking him out. The word on the streets was, he is the late Dagrin‘s brother and he is a good rapper in his own right too.
In an industry filled with underground street rappers, that should be enough for a guy to stand out and blow up.
Trod On NL TV
Around that time, NaijaLoaded TV did a feature of the young boy. He was interviewed in a viral video where he had his say about a couple of important things.
That video and the NaijaLoaded post which said Trod claimed he’d be bigger than Olamide in two years, introduced a lot of people to the young rapper. The hype was around him.
Whether people liked him because he was related to Dagrin or they actually like his music is a different matter entirely. The fact remains, in and around 2017, Trod was a sensation and he had a lot of promise.
What Then Happened?
Alas, that was the last time I heard of this guy. He’s obviously talented and must have dropped some songs or even projects over the years, but in all that time, Trod has not been able to make a single mainstream hit song.
So many other guys, some who were before him, some who came after him, have dropped singles that have caught on to the mainstream and become notable songs in the industry.
Take Davolee, for example. Davolee has at least two songs we can call hits (“Way” and “Lock Up“) and although that’s not a lot for a five-year career, it’s still something. Even Picazo has a mild hit in “Pray For Me.”
But Dagrin‘s brother, Trod, has nothing.
Where Is Trod Now?
Last I heard of him, he was featured on the remix of Zlatan‘s “Lagos Anthem” and that might be his most notable performance yet.
Four years later, the promise is dead. Although he’ll always have the potential, Trod doesn’t seem like a promising artist anymore. That, I don’t have to tell you, is very unfortunate.
In another post, I’ll talk about why I think Trod and so many underground rappers with potential didn’t blow up. But for now, I’ll love to hear what you think.
Do You Think TROD Can Still Have A Comeback?
