Amapiano came into the industry in 2019 and quickly became the next wave.

If you wanted to make a hit song, that was the formula.

The style became very popular when South African DJ, Kabza De Small, linked up with WizKid, Burna Boy, and Cassper Nyovest to do what remains one of the biggest amapiano songs to date, “Sponono.”

But as soon as it entered Nigeria, it stopped being a South African thing, with immediate effect.

At some point in 2020, everyone in the Nigerian music industry was doing it. Even the people you wouldn’t imagine. Falz, Skales, Naira Marley, they all did it.

Well, from the style of it, the style isn’t that hard, so you can just jump on a beat and repeat a line over and over till the beat fades (worked for Davido.)

Well, this is top five on A Better Time and remains one of Davido‘s best songs in recent times.

“Heaven” has a simple flow at it’s core and didn’t need witty lyrics for support.

Davido‘s delivery on this song was simply stunning. Definitely one of the good ones!

Zinoleesky – Kilofeshe

When you think of amapiano, it’s only right that the name of the guy that said “amapiano” on the intro of his hit song, comes to your mind first.

Zinoleesky made one of the biggest songs of 2020, and I’m sure so many people share that sentiment.

It’s a damn good song, too!

Masterkraft – Hallelu ft. Bella Shmurda

Masterkraft didn’t come to play!

“Hallelu” is such a banger, and it had a valid and sound concept. Zlatan was flawless but, Bella Shmurda ate this one.

Naira Marley – Koleyewon

Nobody actually touches Naira Marley when it comes to concepts.

“Koleyewon” doesn’t just have a concept, the storyline, the arrangement, everything was well organized.

I mean, that’s the only way a rapper gets to make an amapiano record that’s that big.
