Joeboy’s Album Is Not That Impressive (Here’s Why)

Joeboy is yet another artist that proves to us that making hits is a whole different game from making an album that’s worth listening to.

Now Joeboy didn’t blow up after making a project, like, say an EP, like so many other of his peers did. No, we just woke up one day and the song “Baby” was everywhere. The song didn’t just become a hit, it was a smash.

As expected, the youngster had to follow up with another banger. His next single “Beginning” which also gave off Baby vibes, didn’t take long before it became a national hit and everyone was talking about Joeboy.

Of course, worthy of note is that as at the same time, Fireboy, Rema and others also came on the scene and he was inadvertently in a very competitive environment. But he did what he had to do.

Love & Light

When he finally put out his EP, “Love & Light” it wasn’t all that, since the highlight were just, “Baby” and “Beginning,” singles that have already been released prior to the release of the EP. The hype faded too quickly.

Though, that didn’t stop him from doing one of the biggest hits of the year, “Nobody” with DJ Neptune and Mr Eazi, early in 2020.

Then after that, Joeboy went silent.

Or no, he did not go silent. Maybe people just didn’t care anymore. All his other efforts after that period all went under the radar. Well, it was now time to get people’s interest back with his debut studio album, which some said was “long overdue.”

He Drops New Album

The album tentatively called “Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic” all seems like a rushed effort to just put something out there to maintain some kind of relevance. Even down to the name, it doesn’t look like so much thought was put into getting the work done.

For one, the songs are either boring or average at best. The singles he pre-released weren’t all that good either.

There’s “Celebration” that’s monotonously boring, and “Focus” that is just alright. On “Lonely” though , kinda sounded like the boy was up to something and that was supposed to be a good sign before the album. Well, it wasn’t.

Coming in at 14 tracks, you’re lucky if you’re able to enjoy the album past the fifth or sixth track.

No Guest Features

Also, the decision to not have any guest feature on the album takes away any form of excitement from the project.

Because yeah, what am I looking forward to? Joeboy singing with the same kind of vibe over and over for 37 minutes? Hard pass!

What do you think of the album?

Did You Enjoy It?

Let’s hear from you.
