When Blaqbonez first referred to himself as the Best Rapper in Africa, it became quite the controversy.
For one, there’s a lot of people who can lay claim to that title and at that point, he just wasn’t one of those people. Not even in Nigeria, in fact.
But the events that have followed since the BRIA have showed us that Blaqbonez just might have been on to something. Because besides maybe Olamide, is there any other rapper who’s managed to stay in the mainstream for three years now except Blaq? I bet there isn’t.
Blaqbonez released his first major release since the Bad Boy Blaq era last year and the album, “Sex Over Love” was quite a success. He had hits, he switched up his flow, went straight to the top, and today he’s one of the most relevant players in the game. It doesn’t get better than that, honestly.
His last major release, “Commander” was still a continuation of his “Sex Over Love” vibes that had him singing like Rema. The afro thing has become part of Blaqbonez’s signature sound, but at some point he’s gonna have to return to rap, right?
Well, the guy is back! He just released a new single, “Go Home” which is a direct follow-up to “Commander.” The track is proper drill and Blaq’s flow on this one is just superb. The song has a sing-along hook, a story-lined verse, and an interesting instrumental.
Of course, it’s about his anti-love lifestyle but it’s a very good one. Even if it wasn’t Blaqbonez that released this one, it would still be a good track without a doubt. If this one manages to go on top of the charts and do numbers, I guess we can say hip-hop can still sell in Nigeria if you do it right.
