The word on the street is that Reminisce has a new album on the way.
That means a lot of things, but it means more than anything Reminisce needs a hit now more than ever. So, it’s time to start bringing those collaborations in?
If you know Reminisce, then you know he’s one of the few artists who have a discography stacked up with a whole lot of guests. He’s the same guy that has featured Wizkid, Davido, and Olamide. Pick an artist at random, and Reminisce has probably featured him.
When it comes to the ladies, while he’s not rolled with many of them, he has done stuff with the best of them including Tiwa Savage, Niniola, and now, Simi.
Of course, this doesn’t mean all the songs are good or anything, but it does say something about just how much Influence Alaga has on the industry.
Overdose ft. Simi
The “Overdose” track is supposed to be a shift from the rap that Reminisce has been setting the floor with, if my thinking is right. And well, it is as far from hip-hop as Reminisce can get.
I won’t sugarcoat this. There are some problems with the song. Number one is the instrumental. The beat sounds like something that isn’t befitting of an A-list artist like Reminisce. It honestly sounds like something an upcoming artist would use. The beat could have been much much better and maybe that would have helped the song. Probably not.
Another problem with the song is what Reminisce was trying to do. Not everyone can be Baddo. And, to be fair, it room Baddo quite some time to perfect the kind of afro-pop he was doing on “UY Scuti.” Reminisce is not that good. Yes, he did songs like “Ponmile” so he could have been better with his delivery on here as well. It was poor.
Then there’s Simi. Simi sounded like she knew what she was doing and that’s a plus for the track but unfortunately not enough to put that track among the list of the top songs we have currently. Many times, it doesn’t matter if a song is good or not, a big name on the track can definitely make it a huge hit. Well, I don’t think that will be the case for “Overdose.”
It’s been a long time since two big names have been on such a poor track and it’s embarrassing really. Every part of that song—except maybe Simi’s part—leaves much to be desired and that’s not good at all. I won’t be playing that song more than once.
Rating: 3/10
