Here Is Why Oxlade’s Sextape Issue Wasn’t Nearly As Bad As People Hoped It Would Be

Oxlade is a young artist in his prime doing things most of his peers are also doing.

By no means is he a poster boy for Afrobeats, Nigerian music, or a model for boys the people who enjoy his music—people who are almost his age, or probably even older.

Now, this is not one of those things where we just say “he’s a kid” to explain some shitty behavior away. It’s not that at all.

It’s okay for a celebrity to do whatever they want to do in private, but it’s not okay if somehow their private lives are on a video circulating on social media. Under no circumstances is that good (even though it could bring publicity).

Oxlade fucked up this one. There shouldn’t be a video like that, to begin with. But it happened, and it somehow came out. Okay, what do we do now?

It’s only typical that people don’t bash Oxlade. It’s only logical that it becomes a laughable thing.

But I bet, after Tiwa Savage’s ordeal last year, so many people would actually love for Oxlade to be a victim of bullying. Some have even turned it into a gender war, pointing out the obvious double standards in our societies. I think that’s just cruel.

If you want examples of double standards in our societies, you could always look everywhere, look at everyday occurrences and you’d find it there. Sex tapes are not usual, so it’s logical that there is no one acceptable response to them.

But it’s true, many people would actually have loved it if it would have had much bigger consequences for Oxlade. But it won’t.

I’ll tell you why. Oxlade is not a major figure in this industry. Nobody is looking up to him. Absolutely nobody, if you think about it. Nobody is doing anything because they see Oxlade doing it. You can’t say the same for someone like WizKid. Or Tiwa Savage.
