International collaborations are one of the best things that can ever happen to the career of a Nigerian artiste.
The joy, euphoria, exposure and attention that follows are one of the numerous benefits of a international collaboration.
But truth be told, most of these international collaborations don’t achieve their aims. Some of the best inputs we’ve had from foreign artistes have come from Drake(Come Closer), Akon(Chop My Money) and Sean Paul(Bum bum)
But there are also some ones that flopped.
Davido x Tinashe – How Long
Davido appears on this list two times. This one here is for his 2016 supposed summer anthem, ‘How Long‘.
With Davido building buzz around the album for most of the year, a promotional roll-out was made for the lead single, How Long with a video made for it.
However, in streams and stats, that single didn’t fly.
Tiwa Savage x Omarion – Get It Now
Off from Tiwa Savage‘s ‘Sugar cane‘ EP was the RnB single, Get it now. While records like Sugar Cane and exquisite collaboration with Wizkid got visual treatments.
‘Get it Now‘ was amplified with news of a foreign artiste on it and with Omarion jumping on it, many expected the remix to help in Tiwa Savage‘s global music push.
But you know the story at the end of the day.
WizKid x Chris Brown African Bad Gyal
CB and Starboy have been pushing their collective single, ‘African Bad Gyal‘ prior to when it was released in 2017.
The song was recorded 2014 but it wasn’t released till when it got included in Sounds From The Other Side album which dropped in 2017.
Unfortunately, as opposed to a billboard top spot that the song was expected to gain, oops, the song didn’t fly irrespective of the status of the two artistes.
Yemi Alade x Rick Ross – Oh My Gosh
If there was one story that surprised us this year, it was the news of Yemi Alade and Rick Ross collaboration on ‘Oh My Gosh‘.
As exciting as it may be for Nigerian artistes and its music, this kind of collaboration was projected as a flop even before it dropped.
While many still had high hopes for it, it dropped and then it lacked enough weight of a hit record. It’s not a surprise you’re reading about it here and you’ve forgotten the lyrics.
You don’t forget the lyrics if it’s a hit song, the song is never a hit anyway.
Davido X Rae Sremmurd X Young Thug – Pere
With Davido returning to his Back to Basics movement 2017 after a turbulent year he had in 2016 chasing international recognition, he decided to test the international waters again with Pere.
Judging by the hot streak in form he was on at that period especially with the music rotation of Fall and If, Pere was expected to continue in that pedestal. However, it flopped heavily.
Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy are currently in the news with their collaborations with international and globally known superstars.
But out of these unimpressive collaborations listed above
