Simi is no doubt one of the most appreciated female Nigerian artistes. She’s probably the second most appreciated after Tiwa Savage because of her angelically sweet voice, good lyrical composition and delivery on songs.
About a week ago, the X3m music act, Simi lashed out to Yahoo-boys on her Instagram Live and even dared them to stop buying her music. This generated lots of negative comments towards her with few people saluting her courage for going to such extent to condemn yahoo-yahoo in Nigeria.
It’s quite surprising that the singer released her 3rd Studio Album, “Omo Charlie Champagne” in this midst of many negative clapbacks as a result of what she had said.
Well, a situation where your talent is appreciated but your mouth is too loose when addressing social issues can make same people who once appreciated you to loose interest in you.
Mr. Eazi would have reached the same level as Wizkid & Davido, if he had not loose-talked over the issue of Ghana Jollof and Nigeria Jollof war. Loosing support of music lovers in Nigeria to jollof war shows how impatient Nigerians can be.
Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion but when your career requires that people see you in positive light, then you’ve got to watch what you say.
WHERE SIMI GOT IT WRONG
Yahoo-Yahoo is bad, even those doing it are aware it’s bad but Simi didn’t ask herself how we got to this point as a country where virtually all youths have taken to cyber-fraud.
Unfortunately, these youths occupy the vast majority of Nigeria’s population and as such the consume music more. Calling them out and telling them not to buy your songs is just like using your mouth to end your own career.
Releasing an album when you’re still being attacked after daring huge section of music lovers not to buy your songs is not a wise-one. Instead, she should have just keep her album until people’s attention have shifted to another thing entirely.
On the other hand, Simi‘s decision to release Omo Charlie Champagne album at this time might just be her way of proving that she doesn’t need Yahoo-Boys to buy her music to excel. Who knows?
